Children pick it up by living it
Under-fives don't learn a language from lessons — they learn it from snack time, nappy changes, songs and outdoor play. Because Welsh is spoken throughout the day here, it becomes an ordinary part of nursery life rather than a subject.
What bilingualism gives them
Early bilingualism supports listening, memory and attention, and makes a third language easier later. It also opens the door to Welsh-medium primary school in Cardiff and Newport without your child needing to catch up in reception.
Parents who have no Welsh
You don't need a word of Welsh. We share the songs and key phrases your child is using, so bedtime and bath time can include a little Welsh too — and plenty of our parents end up learning alongside their child.
